Recently bought a used car “as is” and it wont pass emissions. What can I do?

Question by Imaginationsgal: Recently bought a used car “as is” and it wont pass emissions. What can I do?
Purchased a used Mazda from a local dealership. They sold it to me “as is”. I took the information to the county clerks office to get it registered right after I bought it (2 days) and it wont pass emissions. What can I do? Is this a legal sale? I live in TN.

Yes it is a legal sale. Thats why you should always inspect the car thoroughly before you make a purchase. The only options you have now is to fix it so you can pass your emissions test or sell the car.

good move/however did you get it scanned to see what it is/ could be egr valve/not expensive/before you go off completely remember you took the as is/you had a choice/now the choice is to get it checked to see what it is

As is sale means like it says, you pruchase this car as it is today with no implied warranty. That is why you have someone who is mechanically inclined do a once over of the car before you purchase it. The only thing you can do is take it to a gargage to find out what part of the emissions is failing, could be any of the below:

    Catalytic converter
    mufflers
    O2 sensors
    Exhaust Manifold

Then get it fixed or sale it out right.
