Should I buy a car with a replaced engine and transmission?
I found a car I wanted to buy (‘02 mercury mountaineer-odometer reads 88,000 miles) and the seller informed me that the engine was just replaced with the same type of engine with 56000 miles on it from a salvage. He also said the previous owner had just replaced the transmission and struts. Does this lower the value of the vehicle? I am getting a pretty good deal but I am not sure if I should beware of these things? At first I thought of it as getting a newer engine. I have also heard that the transmission tends to be one of the major issues on these types of cars. what are your thoughts? Any mechanics have any input?

Nobody here on this answer board can tell you if this is a good car or not. You should get your car inspected by a qualified mechanic to find out if it is in good condition or not. That’s the ONLY way you will know.

You’re NOT buying a collectible. There’s no value in having “all original parts”.
And you should really have a neutral thrid-party mechanic check it over, including jacking it up and look underneath. We can’t do that from here.
condition is more important that if the engine or trans was replaced. you need to get the vehicle to a mechanic that you trust and have them inspect the vehicle for any problems that might pop up in the near future. you can then deal on the price accordingly.
if the vehicle is in good overall condition, then dont worry about what was or was not replaced as it doesnt matter in the long run.
