What can you tell me about a 1982 Kawasaki KZ 305 CSR?

Question by cohibasafterdark: What can you tell me about a 1982 Kawasaki KZ 305 CSR?
I am looking for a small, light, cheap motorcycle to start out on. I’ve found a 1982 KZ 305 for 0 that looks to be in pretty good condition. It’s got 15,000 miles on it and hasn’t been in storage for several years like so many of the bikes I see for sale. I know I’ll probably at least drop my first bike and probably wreck it, so I don’t want to spend much money on it. I already plan on keeping this for only a few years, so I’m not worried about outgrowing the small engine size. So is there anything I should know about these bikes as far as reliability, parts availability, etc.?

being old parts will be expensive and make sure to drain and flush the gas tank and make sure there is no rust in the tank so you dont plug up the carb with rust.

This should be an excellent starter bike. Don’t expect a 27 year old motorcycle to be completely reliable. But it should do OK if you take care of it and don’t abuse it.

As this is an older motorcycle a service manual would be a very good purchase. I have not been able to find one for this model on the Clymer or Haynes website. However there are some on EBay. A service manual will pay for itself the first time you use it, especially with an older motorcycle.

Most parts you will need are still available. I found a website that carries parts for older motorcycle. But as with most motorcycle parts, don’t expect them to be cheap. See the link below.
